Beirut Grill

I was invited to try out Beirut Grill, which is a fine dining Middle Eastern restaurant located at 72 Bussorah Street.

Beirut Grill is one of the participating restaurants under the Entertainer and one is entitled to 3 vouchers of 1 for 1 main course. All you need to do is to:
1. Select your voucher
2. Key in your pin
3. Pass your phone to your server who will enter than PIN to effect the voucher!

Beirut Grill is part of the five group. There are currently two outlets, Bussorah street and boat quay.

Our tasting menus includes:
- Beirut Mezza Platter ($22)
- Mixed Grilled Kebab Platter ($36, serves at least two)
- Samak Meshwi ($18)
- Mousakaa ($16)
- Baklava ($12)

My most favourite dish was the mixed grill platter and in particular the Lamb Kebab Kofta and Beirut Lamb Chops. I am typically not a huge fan of lamb as I am not used to the strong smell and toughness of the meat. I was really surprised that it is not just juicy, tender and no smell! I was happily chomping down all the food!

We were treated to belly dancing throughout the dinner too! Catch it on every Fridays from 8 to 10pm!

The Entertainer Singapore app retails at S$60. The Entertainer Singapore book, which contains the same coupons in paper format, is priced at S$75 and is also available for purchase atwww.theentertainerasia.com or selected bookstores. The promo code "2015ALVIN" will entitle one to a 10% discount upon checkout on the website

2015 World Gourmet Summit - Awards of Excellence Presentation Ceremony

World Gourmet Summit has always been a key event that I have looked out for for the past few (WGS) years. For this year, WGS was held on the 6 April to 3 May 2015.

I went for the Awards of Excellence Presentation Ceremony & World Gourmet Summit Opening Reception. The event was held on 14 April at One Farrer Park Hotel & Spa. For $98++ per person, one can sample dishes from key establishments such as Forlino, Majestic Bay, White Rabbit, Tung Lok, Prime Society etc. Drinks are served too (unlimited free flow of wines, cocktails, Martell, Macallan).

The only downside of the event was that that this is not a sit down dinner. You will thus have to move around booths and sample the food items!

In terms of food served, there were lots of premium items, such as scallops, abalones, mussels. Food presentation was very exquisite too!

This was this live station for wagyu beef noodles with freshly grated wasabi. Yummy!

This was the highlight for Majestic Restaurant. Ain't it cute? I could not resist but took 1 to sample. Adorable lotus paste buns in the shape of a duck.

This is another live station that I was so impressed with. It has one of the longest queues as the chef is only able to whip out two desserts at a time. This is like a sorbet like candy, where he will then cover each side with cream (frozen using liquid nitrogen). When you put the lollipop in your mouth, it melts in your mouth instantaneously.  Awesome!

More desserts and cakes...

Royal Mail - Part 2

Following my earlier post on Royal Mail, we came back a second time to try out more dishes, namely Lamb Fore Shank ($32) and Lobster Linguine ($28).

For desserts, we ordered the dessert platter for two ($28).

Royal Mail has a bar on the first floor. It serves the best selling UK beer, i.e. London Pride.
The bar has pretty good happy hour prices for its alcohol, i.e. $5 per pint of beer from 3pm to closing! A definite must try for a night of chill out!

Shashlik

Shashlik Restaurant
545 Orchard Road, Far East Shopping Centre #06-19
Closed on Monday
6732 6401

This is a Russian restaurant and has been there since 1986.
Shashlik was opened by a group of ex-employees from the very first Russian Restaurant, Troika.
Troika was in Bras Basah back in 1943.

I still remembered that was the venue of our first V day dinner 8 years ago.
Back then, we ordered the Pork Shashlik and Baked Alaskan and I could never forget the warm buns being served there.

I decided to try their Beef Shashlik with Russian Salad ($29) on this visit.
For desserts, I tried out the Banana Flambe and Cherry Jubilee.

Will I come back again?
In terms of experience, the decor is dated and reminds you of the quaint old diner serving Western food.
Pricing is fairly steep for the food served.

Hai Di Lao

Hai Di Lao

Clarke Quay Branch
3D River Valley Road #02-04
63378626

313 Somerset
313 Orchard Road Level 4

=========================================

I have heard of the notorious long queues at Hai Di Lao and decided to try it out during off peak timings, i.e. 11am on a weekend at their Clarke Quay outlet.

They serve a la carte steamboat, where the concept is like JPot where you can order your choose your desired soup base and preferred ingredients. You can also customize your own sauces at a charge of $3 per person and this will give you free flow of fruits and desserts (soya beancurd). For drinks, you can either opt for water or top up $3 per person for free flow of herbal tea, barley etc.

The overall experience makes one feel pampered as you have a dedicated server to help you out, such as providing you wipes for your spectacle and phone, topping up your soup base and water etc. If you order handmade noodles, there is a performance where the serve will prepare the noodles in front of you.

In addition to that, manicures are provided for those waiting in queues and cosy corner while yone wait for their number to be called. For parents with children, there's a playground and shows available to keep your children entertained. We even spotted a baby cot amidst the dining area.

=============================================

This is one of the participating restaurants under the Entertainer App, which consists of 1 for 1 vouchers for 2 buffet lunches and buffet dinner for its Sentosa branch and newly opened branch at Kallang Leisurepark.

How the voucher works?
Each voucher is a 1 for 1 deal.  This means that you jut need to pay the price for 1 for every 2 diners.
You can use up to 4 vouchers if available.

Coca Steamboat has always been my favorite steamboat place since it was located at Concourse.
Unlike the newer steamboat places whee you get to choose your soup base, they serve a standard dual soup case, chicken and tom yum. At $26 and $42 for lunch and dinner (prior to Entertainer vouchers), it's very worth it.
